New environmental permit 2007

The 31 January 2007 the verdict arrived from the Swedish Environmental Court concerning the airports' application for a new environmental permit. The application process has proceeded during several years and has amongst other things involved extensive investigations and consultations booth with the authorities and the public.

Brief summary of the Verdict dated 31 January 2007

The Environmental Court give Stockholm Skavsta Airport AB (SSA) permit, according to 9 Chapter of the Environmental Code, to operate airport activity at Skavsta Airport in Nyköping Municipality, to an annual extent of maximum 75 000 movements/year, and maximum 300 technical engine runs/year and the refurbishing and additional buildings which are required for this activity.

The permit also gives the amount of passengers within the applied activity can increase up to six million passengers.


The airport has two Investigation conditions to be prepared and presented by 30 June 2008:

1. Effect on day water - the airport shall propose suggestion how the emissions are taken care of and the cost of taking action upon this. The investigation and suggestion to final terms to be presented latest 30 June 2008.

2.  The airport shall plan and construct a system for take offs and landings with set flight paths for heavy IFR traffic in order that towns and other building are avoided, giving an optimal solution as far as noise is concerned.

In the meantime the 19 set and 8 provisional conditions form the permit under which we work. The provisional conditions will transform into set conditions after the court has approved our two above investigation points.

The Environmental Court considers that the presented environmental consequence description concerning both procedure and contents corresponds to the demands which can be requested with support from 6 Chapter of the Environmental Code, wherefore the Environmental Consequence Description can be approved.
