All-time-high at Stockhom Skavsta

Published: 03 April 2008

All-time-high at Stockholm Skavsta - more than 200 000 passengers during March 2008.

For the first time in the airport's history the passenger numbers exceeded the 200 000-mark for the month. During March 2008, 210 620 passengers travelled to or from Stockholm Skavsta Airport, being an increase compared to the same month last year by 42.3%.

- This is a further milestone in the airport's history, says Stockholm Skavsta's Managing Director Dot Gade Kulovuori. A contributing factor that the record was set this month, could be that the Easter holiday was already in March this year. We have had a lot of Eastertravellers choosing to travel from Skavsta. Destinations of the low cost carriers to snowy areas in the Alps and the Pyrenees, and the sunny destinations further south have tempted, as have the charter offers to warmer latitudes.

Stockholm Skavsta has seen major passenger increases since October last year, when Ryanair increased their Scandinavian base at Skavsta to six based aircraft. Presently, the low cost carriers Ryanair and Wizz Air have 38 destinations from Stockholm Skavsta. Fritidsresor, Ving and Apollo have traffic to a total of eight charter destinations and Gotlandsflyg operate domestic flights to Visby. The total passenger numbers for 2008 are expected to exceed 2.5 million
