13 new routes to Skavsta as Ryanair base two new aircraft
Published: 14 June 2007
Bratislava (Vienna), Malta, Porto, Alicante, Berlin and Salzburg are examples of some of the thirteen new routes which Ryanair opens from Skavsta in October 2007. Ryanair thereby increase their base by two new Boeing 737-800's. This makes a total of six based aircraft, approx. 180 Ryanair employees and 28 routes from Stockholm Skavsta (total 42 routes).
The first aircraft arrives 10 October, then traffic to the first six destinations starts; Basel in Switzerland - Ryanair's first Swiss destination and the first low cost route in the country, Karlsruhe/Baden Baden, Berlin (Schönefeld), Bratislava/Vienna, Pisa and Valencia. The second aircraft arrives 30 October, when six more routes will be added; Alicante, Porto, Eindhoven, Liverpool, Malta and Trapani in Sicily. Salzburg starts in December, a winter destination operating 19 December - 29 March. Two of the routes are of typical business character; Berlin and Bratislava (Vienna), the others are attractive for both summer and winter travellers.
- With this decision Ryanair increase their traffic from Stockholm Skavsta by close to 40 %, says Dot Gade Kulovuori, MD. Ryanair celebrated their 10th anniversary at Skavsta on Tuesday and this announcement is the best present we could have! We will now devote the summer to prepare for the traffic by making further investments on the airport and recruit more staff.
Ryanair calculate the total amount of passengers to/from Stockholm Skavsta to 2.2-2.3 million per year. Including traffic from Wizz Air, TUI, My Travel/Ving and Vildanden, Stockholm Skavsta expects the total passenger number to increase to 2.5-2.7 million per year. With the new routes Stockholm Skavsta Airport will become the third largest airport after Stockholm Arlanda and Gothenburg Landvetter.
- Ryanair have always been very good at calculating passenger numbers - and they deliver, says Dot Gade Kulovuori.
